Amtrak Tallahassee Subdivision Sunset Limited III Tallahassee, Fl; December 1999. Back in town, I take advantage of a beautiful winter morning to grab
this shot.
Tallahassee, Fl; March 2000. Equipment failure has been actually quite rare. However, this unfortunate
eastbound is stranded in Tallahassee in front of the oldest depot in Florida.
Already 3 hours late, the crew discovers in Chattahoochee a bad wheel bearing.
They run to Tallahassee at minimal speed and arrange for the drop off of
the faulty equipment in old A yard. Around 1130, the planned maneuver is
executed. Half way through the first leg of the Y, the front engine drops
a wheel on the ground. B yard crew comes to the rescue with a rerailer.
When 836 finally reconnected to its train, the remaining passengers had
been transferred to buses and the train cancelled. A new crew traveled
that afternoon from Jacksonville to take over the train. Around 1630, the
vans were loaded with the unfortunate crew. The train got on its way at
1720. Note the baggage car has been parked out of the way (Barely visible
behind the tail end of the train). The second engine has been tucked away
in A yard.
