INTERMODAL TRAINS ON THE CSX TALLAHASSEE SUBDIVISION
Summer 1999
Tallahassee, Fl; June 1999. For the entire Spring of 1999, I feast on the new power at this site.
Of course, it helped to live up the street 2 blocks away from the mainline.
Q102, a regular after work was pulled at least once by almost the entire
roster of the first 53 engines.
Tallahassee, Fl; June 1999. It is then official: Conrail is no more. June 1999 marks the beginning
of the integration. It did not take long for CSX to number-patch the newly
acquired engines. I was hoping that I would catch some of these engines
untouched at least for a while but no such luck. CSX 8668 SD50 is coupled
with a veteran CSX 8421 SD40-2M which has not even been repainted in the
YN2 scheme.
Tallahassee, Fl; August 1999. By the end of the summer, the first 100 AC6000 are on CSX property.
Also on CSX property by the end of the summer are the weeds and Kazoo.
(See the same location in June 1999 above; ouch!!!)
Tallahassee, Fl; August 1999. Also by the end of the summer, the power crunch generated by the merger
is felt all through both NS and CSX systems. To remediate the problem,
CSX called upon leasing companies such as Helms. HLGX 6808 and her sisters
got to be regulars on the line. However, the leased power , because generally
older less reliable power, was only rarely assigned to the pigs. It is
also one of the last appearances of the AC6000 as they got assigned to
northern trains more often. As we got most of the roster of the first 53
AC6000s, the CSXT 5000 series were almost never spotted on the Tallahassee
Subdivision.
