INTERMODAL TRAINS ON THE CSX TALLAHASSEE SUBDIVISION 1998-February 1999 Tallahassee, Fl; December 1998. Q105 has typical power for intermodal trains of that time, a mix of
B23-7, B30-7 and B36-7s. but not for long...
Greenville, FL; July 1998. A different kind of rumble shook the thick summer air of 1998. The
3 pre-production GE AC6000 engines made a few test runs on the intermodals
between Jacksonville and New Orleans. Here, 601 and 602 bring Q102 on the
last leg of the trip to Jacksonville.
River Junction (Chattahoochee), Fl; January 1999. Q105 emerges from the overpass under construction. A trio of older
GE Dash 7s is leading the train. Within a year or so, these engines would
be relegated to local services. Q105 would be abolished and renamed X101
and run even more rarely. River Junction and its old red brick buildings
would be wiped out by the construction of the overpass.
What a way to turn the page!
Tallahassee, Fl; January 1999. Freshly delivered to CSX, 603 is found solo at the head of a long Q102
just before sunset.
(Cliche but AWESOME!!!)
This was however going to be a rare scene. The 600s were more often
coupled with each other or with a Dash 8 or 9 of lesser power.
Greenville, Fl; February 1999. From solo to triplet: when the production engines were delivered late
1998 early 1999, they were assigned on intermodals most of them out of
Jacksonville, Fl. The serious railfans on the main line to New Orleans
were able to get most of the roster. Here a triplet, a rare site for this
type of engine, slightly overpowers the pig train.
